Women in Prostituition (WIP)

STI/HIV/AIDS Intervention Among Women In Prostituition

The Women In Prostitution Project started with the goal of preventing STI/HIV/AIDS among commercial sex workers in North Chennai. The MCCSS program of awareness and action has become a model project for other health organizations working among all high risk communities.

The highlights of this project include awareness workshops, education, screening camps and treatment provisions offered to all women in prostitution. In addition to motivating the sex working community to get regular health examinations and change high risk behavior, MCCSS offers involvement in small saving schemes to improve financial status and quality of life.

While the goal of this project is to intervene and prevent STI/HIV/AIDS transmission among women in prostitution, the following are important project objectives:

  • Create awareness on STI and HIV/AIDS in the community
  • Provide Counseling and Communication for Sustained Behavior Change
  • Provide care for STIs.· Promote Peer Educators
  • Promotion of Condoms
  • Care/Support for People Living With AIDS (PLWA)
